What is Freedom?

Freedom is a word with many meanings to different people. And as Orwell warned, quite a few people will try to redefine words from their original meanings to make their uninvited benevolence more palpable. The word freedom is no exception.

Freedom is Self Determination. If you are new to libertarianism, these links should challenge your way of looking at things. If you are already up to speed, below are some valuable resources.

Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership: Fierce Defender of American Liberty

To destroy "gun control" and to encourage Americans to understand and defend all of the Bill of Rights for everyone. Those are the twin goals of Wisconsin-based Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO). Founded by Jews and initially aimed at educating the Jewish community about the historical evils that Jews have suffered when they have been disarmed, JPFO has always welcomed persons of all religious beliefs who share a common goal of opposing and reversing victim disarmament policies while advancing liberty for all. JPFO is a non-profit tax-exempt educational civil rights organization, not a lobby.

The SECOND AMENDMENT SISTERS, Inc. came about in December 1999, when a group of women decided they had enough: enough of the distortion, the misrepresentation, and the reproach from the anti-Second Amendment crowd. Learning of the Million Mom March and their misleading message was the galvanizing factor for these five women. (The MMM has since merged with Bell Campaign, then with Handgun Control, Inc., which then changed its name to the Brady Campaign.) At first, the main focus for SAS was that first rally on Mother’s Day 2000 to counter the MMM. As the rally drew close, SAS realized that there was a great need in the USA for such an out-spoken women’s group. SAS began accepting paid memberships in July of 2000, and continues to grow in leaps and bounds throughout the USA.

  • The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE): FEE is a "home" for friends of freedom everywhere. It was founded in 1946 by Leonard E. Read and given direction by its adviser, the eminent Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises. Throughout the years FEE's mission has remained resolute: to study the moral and intellectual foundation of a free society and to share its knowledge with individuals everywhere.

    Cliches.org addresses the standard cliches of the day regarding important issues. Many assumptions are built in to our society so heavily that people never give them a second glance in order to question them. Cliches presents the "conventional wisdom" -- such as unchallenged phrases (accepted by average folks as "the obvious") , like "health care is too important to leave to the free market" -- and explains the serious problems inherent to such positions.
