"Lord & Taylor Leaving Pittsburgh"

Government Directed Downtown Revitalization: For years we have fought against central planning and how it redirects taxpayer money from the private sector (where it generates jobs that actually are created by real consumer demand), and instead into schemes that sound fancy, but often lack the important nuances of basic market realities -- such as consumer demand. Coincidentally it seems as if the only beneficiaries of such redistribution schemes are the individuals and groups who are politically connected enough to benefit directly from the deal. Meanwhile, the projects always go flat, bleed money, leaving taxpayers holding the bag -- and often more debt -- which only makes the Pittsburgh Area less attractive in the long run.
